The Pig That Therefore I Am  in principio era una mostra fotografica. Ogni tanto diventa un’installazione vivente. Miru Kim, un’artista che fa base a New York, la sta portando in giro per il mondo con sommo scandalo. Adesso tocca all’Art Basel Miami Beach. E la cosa è live. Live in mezzo ai porci.

Miru Kim s’aggira tra i verri completamente nuda. Tra stalle e porcilaie. Tra grugni e setole. In un mosto di fango, cibo, feci. Piaccia o non piaccia, l’idea di fondo è ricreare se non un’uguaglianza, una vicinanza tra uomo e animale; dove il contatto è consentito dalla pelle, dalla nudità.

Superare Cartesio con l’aiuto di Derrida. La divisione tra regno dell’uomo e vita animale. Come Miru Kim spiega in quest’intervista al NYT:

«The title comes from the philosopher Jacques Derrida’s “The Animal That Therefore I Am.” He critiques the relegation of animal life since the time Descartes made the distinction between man as a superior rational being to every other living species. I tend more towards the Buddhist perspective that all living beings are connected in a circular way via life force, or qi. It’s not that “I think, therefore I am,” but rather, “I am, therefore I feel.”»

Ma Derrida scriveva libri. Miru Kim invece ci mette il corpo, non senza incontrare anche comiche asprezze:

«This was the single most frightening experience I’ve ever had. The clanking of metal crates, the screams and grunts, the smell, the filth, the dreary eyes of pregnant sows confined in gestation crates, the fear that someone may come in and find me naked, and the possibility of a farmer chasing me with a shotgun».
